WHAT ARE THE AIMS OF ORKNEY THE BRAND?
Orkney the Brand exists to help fund projects which contribute to the development of Orkney as a brand. It is a dynamic and proactive programme which deals with a wide range of projects and is able to pick up and develop new projects as the brand requires.
HOW DID IT START?
Through its commitment to helping local businesses develop, Orkney Enterprise decided that the time was right, in 1996, to help local businesses launch themselves and their quality products onto a wider stage. Many food companies had invested heavily in new premises and needed to look to new markets to sustain their businesses; jewellery and crafts businesses were beginning to feel the pressure of far eastern competitors, and needed to demonstrate the quality and desirability of their Orkney inspired, designed and manufactured products.
Orkney Enterprise (OE) and Orkney Islands Council (OIC) therefore became involved in the building of an Orkney brand in 1996 - and continued this work through the three part-European funded Orkney Marketing Schemes and now Orkney the Brand.
WHO FUNDS IT?
The programme is funded by Orkney Enterprise and Orkney Islands Council. It is administered by Orkney Enterprise. Private sector contributions are requested for appropriate projects.
HOW MUCH MONEY IS INVOLVED?
Orkney Enterprise and Orkney Islands Council contribute equally to a total of £140K each year.
