In 2005, Orkney the Brand staged an Orkney village at the Royal Bath & West Show at Shepton Mallet in Somerset. This show is one of the largest shows of its kind in the UK and Orkney took one of the largest spaces at the show to showcase no fewer than 15 of its food, craft, jewellery and art businesses and included tourism information along with craft demonstrations and live music from one of its leading bands.
Refrigerated liveried trailers carried the village and the products all the way from Orkney to Shepton Mallet, creating a lot of interest on their journey. The trailers belong to Jim Brackenridge Transport who, along with The Orcadian newspaper and Northlink Ferries, sponsored the village.
| All of the detailed planning and work paid off when the Orkney Village was awarded Best Large Trade Stand of the Show and presented with a magnificent trophy by Simon Weston, the Falklands war veteran.
| The work of Orkney the Brand was also honoured by the Orkney Village being chosen as the only trade stand to be included in the visit of HRH Duke of Kent who was introduced to the exhibitors by John Clarke and spent much time chatting to them and sampling the food products from the Orkney Islands. Clearly impressed by the quality of the products on show, he didn’t allow the rainstorm that had started soon after his visit to interfere with his obvious enjoyment of the tour. |
