Orkney the Brand has taken the Orkney Village to a number of events since the Royal Bath and West in 2005 to provide a flavour of what Orkney has to offer in terms of quality products to a much wider audience.
THE ORKNEY VILLAGE AT THE ROYAL BATH & WEST The Orkney Village has now had three successful attendances at the Royal Bath and West Show in Somerset.
The Art Gallery was one of the most popular attractions in the first year but with their work in high demand already, the artists' place was taken in the second and third years by furniture makers and crafts people.
Our food producers have taken part in all three shows with their mouth-watering array of fine foods from these clean, green islands and each year are treated to an enthusiastic response to their return.
The extremely popular appearances of top Orkney folk group Hullion take place on the Village Green and welcome rest areas for show-weary shoppers are in place to let people just sit and soak up the atmosphere that is created here, some 700 miles from the actual Orkney Islands.
AND AT THE CLA GAME FAIR
Orkney the Brand took theTaste of Orkney to the CLA Game Fair as part of an Orkney Village. The Game Fair in 2006 took place at Broadlands in Hampshire.
AND NOT FORGETTING THE ORKNEY ISLANDS
Orkney's own County Show saw an increased presence by Orkney companies in 2006 and 2007 as the concept of the Orkney Village was developed closer to home for the benefit of the islands' companies, visitors and locals alike. Various factors mean that the development of the Orkney village at the local show is unlikely to proceed any further in future which is a great pity.
